Family Therapy in Fort Collins, CO

What is family therapy?

Families are living, breathing units, and sometimes they can get broken and bruised. Healing a family after any kind of trauma or change can impact the lives of every member in your family and help to create long-lasting, healthy bonds. Whether we utilize play therapy or we all sit down and talk together, healing is possible.

I work with families as they seek to redefine who they are and how they will work together. The goal of family therapy is to help you build cooperative, loving, connected relationships within your family. You and your family deserve to feel love and connection.

Blended families

Divorce, death, re-marriage, step siblings, generations living together, and family members moving away can put immense stress on a family. Each time your family changes, roles change and identities are challenged. Working with a therapist can help you and your family navigate these changes and establish healthy relationships within your new family.

Grieving families

When someone dies, the entire families grieves. As caretakers and parents grieve alongside children, families can often find themselves taking turns grieving and finding it difficult to navigate the shifting perspective and roles. Working with a family therapist can help you and your family understand what has happened and what you need, how to grieve together, and how to exist in your new reality as family.

Divorce and separation

Divorce and separation is a loss, and grief is a natural part of the process. Parents may find co-parenting separately an overwhelming, daunting, and frustrating task, and children may struggle with the drastic changes. A family therapist can help you navigate the new changes in your changing family.

Adolescents

Is your teen struggling? The transition from child to teenager can be confusing and frustrating for both children and parents and caretakers. Your teen is hitting a developmental stage where they naturally start to separate from the family and prioritize external friendships. It can be helpful to bring in a family therapist to navigate the changes in your family dynamics and can help your teen to express their needs and flourish.

Play therapy

Play is essential to the human experience and is our universal first language. I work with my clients to understand their world and experiences without words. Through play, families can begin to make sense of their experience to help children, adolescents, and adults heal.
